Photo-Realistic Ink Paintings of Animals by George Boorujy

Brooklyn based artist George Boorujy creates impossibly detailed ink paintings of North American birds and other animals, often pouring numerous photographs and visiting zoos where the animals are kept before embarking on a piece.

P.P.O.W. gallery, who is hosting George Boorujy’s latest solo show, Blood Memory, writes, "Through their gaze an interaction evolves with the wild that otherwise would have to be sought out or birthed from happenstance. However fleeting our exchanges with the wild are, an impression of their presence marks our memories. There is something mystical at play; a silent exchange that either moves us towards awareness or heightens our fear of the unknown."

The World’s Largest Aquarium - Georgia Aquarium

The Georgia Aquarium, located in Atlanta, Georgia, USA is the world's largest aquarium with more than 8.5 million US gallons of marine and fresh water housing more than 120,000 animals of 500 different species. Four young whale sharks, four beluga whales, and four manta rays. (This aquarium is the only institution outside of Asia to house whale sharks.) There is 12,000 square feet of viewing windows and cost $290 million USD to build.

First opened to the public in November 23, 2005, the aquarium welcomed its 10 millionth guest on June 25, 2009.

Birds Nests Photography by Sharon Beals

Sharon Beals is an incredible photographer and artist. A self-proclaimed ‘urban naturalist’ that was raised in Seattle and now calls Hunters Point Shipyard in San Francisco, home. Sharon uses photography as an art form, and as a way to chronicle what moves her heart and concerns her conscience from habitat restoration and plastic in the ocean, to the ecology of rivers, and of course, birds’ nests. In her latest hardcover book ‘Fifty Nests and the Birds that Built Them’, Sharon showcases her gorgeous photographs of nests accompanied by fascinating and informative portraits of the builders themselves.
